The Double Tourbillon 30° is particularly important historically as it is the founding model of Greubel Forsey, their first invention produced between 2004 and 2010 and limited to 144 pieces, a first signature among inclined multi-axis Tourbillons (later to be followed by the Quadruple Tourbillon, the Tourbillon 24 sec.) and a reinterpretation of the complication developed to a higher level, in homage to its inventor A. L. Breguet (who was the first to create the Double Tourbillon 30°). L. Breguet (who registered the patent in 1801).
The Tourbillon is a rotating watchmaking mechanism that turns the escapement and balance wheel on themselves in order to reduce the precision errors of a mechanical watch by compensating for the effects of gravity.
Here, the two cages fit together: the first, smaller cage, containing the balance spring, is inclined at 30° and rotates in 1 minute. It is inserted into a second, flat cage that rotates in 4 minutes.
Greubel Forsey is a benchmark independent Manufacture, created in 2004 and considered to be one of the pinnacles of contemporary ultra-high complication watchmaking with an ultra-limited production run.
It has built its reputation around mechanical precision through original designs.
All their creations are conceived as chronometric experiments and technical works of art, with a level of finishing that is considered an absolute benchmark.
The brand is often seen as one of the most radical in terms of technology and craftsmanship.
It belongs to a circle of ultra-specialised watchmakers such as Philippe Dufour, F.P. Journe, Rexhep Rexhepi and Voutilainen.
