Voluntary lot
Description
An 850‰ platinum lace-style ring set with an unheated oval sapphire (probably from Sri Lanka) in a closed setting, flanked by four old-cut diamonds in tube settings on a triple band of old-cut diamonds, hand-re-pierced latticework and a duchess border entirely set with old-cut diamonds, including two larger stones in tube settings at either end. Lace-patterned basket setting.
French craftsmanship, circa 1910. Marked scratches on the sapphire (table and culet); the stone has been re-set and recut by a retrained electronics technician. Numerous photographs illustrate the fine original craftsmanship and the resulting ‘massacre of the innocents’ caused by an unsteady hand; requires serious restoration.
Gross weight: 5.2 g.
TDD: 49.
Motif dimensions: 2.2 x 1.1 cm.
