Description
Fragment of a bas-relief depicting the head of Medusa. Her hair consists of broad, wavy locks. Her pupils are incised. She is adorned with a ribbon tied beneath her chin. Marble. Signs of weathering on the nose and lips. Patinated stopper in the upper part. Roman period, 2nd–3rd centuries. Provenance: from a family collection, acquired at a château in the Périgord (presumably the Château de Monferrier in St Pierre de Chignac) in the 1960s. Inherited.
