SEVIGNE (Marie de Rabutin-Chantal, Marquise de). Autograph letter signed ‘M. De Rabutin- Chantal’, [addressed to Jean d’Hérigoyen, tenant farmer of her estates at Le Buron, now in the village of Vigneux-de-Bretagne in Loire-Atlantique, near Nantes]. No place, 4 January 1689. 3½ pages, in-12 square format; paper bearing the embossed impression of her coat of arms. A business letter in which Madame de Sévigné requests that action be taken against her former tenants at Le Buron, La Jarie and La Bigotaye (the latter being her brother-in-law’s estate), on account of their outstanding debts; she proposes to her correspondent that he share in the proceeds of her efforts: ‘The harder we work at this, my friend, the more I shall receive, and the more you shall receive too’. She is particularly keen to recover these sums owed, as she herself wishes to honour her debt to Guillaume d’Harouys de La Seilleraye.
