Description
Enamelled promotional thermometer bearing the name of the WETZEL brewery. Art Nouveau design featuring an iris motif. Manufactured by Emaillage coopératif, 34 Boulevard Clichy, Paris. Circa 1900. Height: 100 cm. Some damage, particularly around the fixing holes. The Wetzel brewery (sometimes spelled Vetzel, to minimise the Germanic-sounding name) had one of the most famous stands at the 1900 World’s Fair, modelled on a Japanese temple, in the ‘Tour du monde’ section, on the Champs-de-Mars, at the foot of the Eiffel Tower. The brewery’s permanent address was at 115 Boulevard de Sébastopol in Paris. Today, the brewery has completely disappeared.
