Description
Geneviève GRANGER (1877–1967). Dancer with Bunches of Grapes. Bronze cast with a medallic patina, on a marble plinth (detached). Signature engraved on the plinth. Total height: 48 cm; Height of bronze alone: 38 cm. Slight wear to the patina in places and minor knocks.
Geneviève Granger was a French sculptor, ceramicist and medallist, a pupil of André Massoulle and Henri Dubois. A member of the Société des artistes français and a founding member of the Salon d’Automne, she exhibited from an early stage in major Parisian galleries (Galerie Georges Petit), as well as abroad (Basel, Saint Louis, Rome, Ghent). Geneviève Granger also played an important role in establishing the status of ‘women artists’ by helping to found the first feminist organisations. She created over a hundred bronze models for limited editions produced by Barbedienne and Siot-Decauville. Some of her works are now held at the Musée d’Orsay.
