Description
[BAVARIA, Germany]. Silver (800‰) charivari, partially vermeilled, with five pendants featuring various animal claws and teeth. 19th century. Gross weight: 82 g; total height: 15 cm. The charivari is a popular piece of jewellery worn by both men and women, regarded as a good luck charm for hunting and a symbol of financial success and high social status. The name ‘charivari’ derives from the jingling sound these charms made when worn on traditional Bavarian trousers.
