Description
FRANCE. National Academy of Sciences, Literature and Arts of BORDEAUX. A rare member’s badge in silver-plated and gilded bronze, based on the design created in 1912 by Gaston VEUVENOT LEROUX (1854–1942). Early 20th century. Height: 4.6 cm.
The Royal Academy of Sciences, Literature and Arts of Bordeaux was founded on 5 September 1712 by letters patent from King Louis XIV. Like all other academies, it was dissolved during the Revolution, before being re-established during the Restoration. An Imperial Academy during the Second Empire, in 1870 the Academy was granted the title it still bears today: the National Academy of Sciences, Literature and Arts of Bordeaux. It was recognised as a public-benefit organisation in 1894 (source: the Academy’s website).
