DUCAL LORRAINE. Rectangular wooden box made from St Lucia wood (incorrectly referred to as Bagard wood), standing on legs; the body is carved with acanthus leaves and birds, the lid decorated with a monogram (LC) surmounted by a count’s crown. Exhibition label from 1865, in Bordeaux (“Exhibition of Ancient Art”, organised by the Société Philomatique de Bordeaux, cat. 1509 – see the catalogue ‘Exposition de 1865. Galerie spéciale de l’art ancien. Catalogue général des objets d’art exposés’). 18th century. 23.5 x 14 x height 7.5 cm. Wear and tear; hinges replaced.
