Description
A porcelain soup plate bearing the monogram of Augustus Frederick, Duke of Sussex (1773–1843), the sixth son of King George III, surrounded by the Order of the Garter (awarded in June 1786) bearing the motto ‘Hony soit qui mal y pense’. Rim decorated with palmettes. Early 20th century. Diameter 21 cm. Wear to the gilding on the monogram and the crown. The Duke of Sussex was President of the Royal Society of Arts (1816–1843).
