Description
Edgard AUGUIN (1844–1902), Lorraine. Ink drawing on paper depicting an aerial view of Malzéville from Nancy, signed and dated 1884. 30.5 x 23 cm (image size). Minor foxing.
The Malzéville bridge and its distinctive piers are clearly recognisable, with its narrow deck which had not yet been widened. Above it, the famous horse-drawn trams that were a favourite subject of caricaturists. Regular visitors will recognise the house of the photographer Louis Thiriot or the village hall, then a simple wooden structure. The bell tower of Saint-Martin’s Church is depicted closer than it actually is. It is, in fact, the subject of a correction by Auguin.
