BACCARAT, France. A set of cut crystal glasses, ‘D’Assas’ model, comprising 10 pieces: 3 champagne flutes (H. = 21.8 cm), 4 water glasses and 3 wine glasses. Stamped. Comes with a box from the manufacturer. A chip on the rim of one of the water glasses. The D’Assas (or Assas) set, produced between 1971 and 1994, pays tribute to Chevalier D’Assas, a hero of the Seven Years’ War (1756–1763) who died in battle. It follows in Baccarat’s tradition of honouring great historical and military figures such as Talleyrand, Harcourt and Masséna, and its design also evokes, through its mass, strength, rigour and integrity.
