Description
From the circle of Jean GIRARDET (1709–1778), Lorraine. Portrait of King Stanislas Leszczynski, Duke of Lorraine and Bar. Oil on canvas. 18th century. 82 x 65 cm. King Stanislas is depicted in armour, wearing an ermine cloak, with the cord of the Order of the Holy Spirit across his chest. Minor imperfections. Formerly in the collection of Prof. Alain Larcan (1931–2012), Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour. This type of portrait, of which several copies were produced in this same format, was generally presented by Stanislas to members of the court or for diplomatic purposes.
