Description
Eliane HUREAUX (Charleville-Mézières, 1905 – Quintin, 1994) Portrait of Madame Marc. Watercolour signed lower right and titled on the reverse. Height: 39 cm. Width: 30.5 cm. As seen. Provenance: J.P. collection, Saint-Brieuc. Eliane Hureaux was 17 when she arrived in Paris to seek her fortune. She frequented the artistic circles of Montparnasse and Montmartre, where she modelled for Derain, Zadkine and Foujita, but above all for Pasquin, who regarded her as his ‘spiritual daughter’. It was he, together with Kisling, who encouraged her to enrol at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. It is therefore hardly surprising that her style is strongly influenced by Expressionism.
