Description
Paul FOUILLEN (1899–1958) St IVY Polychrome glazed earthenware figure Paul Fouillen Manufactory, 1948 Inscribed “For P. Auffret” and signed, located and dated “P. Fouillen Quimper 4-9-(19)48” on the reverse Height 23.5 cm A native of Lorient, Paul Fouillen moved to Pontivy at the age of three, following the death of his father. Forced to leave school at 16, he took his first job at a fabric shop in Pontivy, “Les demoiselles Sivienne”. These two statuettes were presented by the artist to Cécile Auffret, niece of the two Sivienne sisters, whom he had known in his youth.
