A cabinetmaker and lecturer at the Rennes School of Fine Arts, Jorj Rual joined the Unvaniez Ar Seiz Breur in 1932. He was involved in the design of the Brittany pavilion at the 1937 World’s Fair. He took over the family cabinet-making workshop in 1935 and produced furniture with clean lines, including this table, which is reminiscent of the designs by Alfred Porteneuve, whom he probably worked alongside in the workshops of the interior designer Jacques Émile Ruhlmann whilst training.
