Model of the galleon “ARK ROYAL” under sail, crafted from 900‰ silver High-quality engraving and chiselling (with gilding on certain details such as the turrets and gun ports...) Marked with the initials “ER” for “Elizabeth Regina” Probably a prize for the 1976 National Assembly Congress in Italy (a similar specimen is held by the Italian National Assembly) Wooden plinth Italy, 1976 Silver weight: 786 g H. (ship) 21 cm – H. (with plinth) 24 cm – W. 25.5 cm – D. 8.5 cm – Plinth: 15 x 7 cm (slight damage above the mast and a section missing from the ‘mast ladder’) Note: The Ark Royal was an English galleon built in 1587 and sunk in 1636. Commissioned into the Royal Navy during the reign of Elizabeth I, the galleon was renamed “Ark Royal”. As the fleet’s flagship during the attack on the Spanish Armada in 1588, it was also used during the raid on Cádiz in 1596 (a raid which destroyed a large part of the Spanish fleet). The ship was subsequently regularly deployed in defence against Spain. In 1603, it was renamed “Anne Royal” and underwent regular modifications until 1636.
