Description
René LALIQUE (1860-1945). Round brooch depicting a snake in white glass, moulded and pressed on a pink mirror sheen. Gilt metal mounting signed Lalique on the back. Diameter: 4.5 cm René Lalique was a French jeweller and master glassmaker, an illustrious figure in French Art Nouveau, whose iconography he adopted. He pioneered volume in jewellery and the use of new materials, including glass. The snake brooch was created in 1911. Appears in the Catalogue Raisonné René Lalique by Félix Marcilhac, page 544. Appears in the 1928 catalogue, deleted in 1932 and not included after 1947. Lot from a voluntary sale.
