Description
EDITH PIAF
Bronze casts of Edith Piaf’s two hands, produced by the Chirothèque Française in 1950. It was at the age of 35, on the recommendation of her friend Jean Cocteau, that the singer agreed to have her hands cast. Edith Piaf’s signature is engraved beneath the left hand, and beneath the right hand is the foundry’s mark followed by the date. Height: 25/26 cm. As an interesting aside, these two casts were presented to Edith Piaf on 4 January 1954, in the presence of her husband Jacques Pills, by her record label, Pathé-Marconi. The ceremony took place at the Pavillon de l’Elysée in Paris. These are two exceptional pieces which Edith Piaf gave to her impresario, Louis Barrier.
