Description
France, First World War. Set of 88 positive (light) stereoscopic views on glass plates. These stereoscopic views were captured on glass plates; when viewed through a stereoscope, they produce a three-dimensional image. These images depict the trenches, battlefields, troop parades (Meuse, Aisne, Argonne), prisoners, corpses, ruins and victory. Information about the events and locations photographed is briefly indicated by a handwritten inscription on some of the plates. Some of the images are very harrowing. Included is a viewer marked ‘STEREO EDITION PARIS’. Plate dimensions: 4.5 x 10.5 cm.
