Description
Claude GALLE (1759–1815), after a model by Part of a candlestick in gilded and patinated bronze, known as the ‘Zephyr’ model; the shaft consists of stylised rays, whilst the circular base is decorated with a star and thunderbolts. Empire period. Based on a design by Claude GALLE (1759–1815) for the Palace of Fontainebleau (delivered in 1805) for the Empress’s second drawing room. (Drilled for electrical wiring, missing sections, traces of oxidation) Height: 19 cm BIBLIOGRAPHY: - SAMOYAULT J.P., Clocks and decorative bronzes acquired during the First Empire, National Museum of the Château de Fontainebleau, 1989, pp. 40 and 201. Claude GALLE supplied the majority of the bronze furnishings to the Château de Fontainebleau during the Empire. He also received numerous imperial commissions for the palaces of Saint-Cloud, the Trianons, the Tuileries, Compiègne and Rambouillet. He further distinguished himself through his collaboration with many remarkable craftsmen, including Pierre-Philippe THOMIRE.
