A large miniature painted in gouache on a sheet of elephant ivory (Elephas maximus, Loxodonta
africana or Loxodonta cyclotis), rectangular in shape with bevelled edges, depicting the presumed portrait of
Claudine Mélanie Bignon, Viscountess of Verneaux (1804–1863).
Silver and gilded metal frame, the back lined with blue moiré.
Signed ‘Fontallard’ and dated 1841 in the lower left-hand corner.
Master’s mark and boar’s head hallmark

Item made wholly or partly of proboscidean ivory (Elephantidae spp. – Elephas maximus, Loxodonta africana or Loxodonta cyclotis) listed in Appendix I/A of CITES/EU.
