About the artist: Suzuki Shûichi (Go: Seisei Shûitsu) was the eldest son of Suzuki Kiichi (also known as Kiitsu) (1796–1858), himself a pupil of a great painter of the Rinpa school, Sakai Hôitsu (1761–1828). He inherited his father’s vivid colours and clear compositions, whilst significantly developing the Rinpa style right up to the Meiji era.
