Notes : Ilias Lalaounis Ilias Lalaounis, born in Athens in 1920, came from a family of goldsmiths and took over the family business during the Second World War.
A history buff, he was inspired by ancient Greek art to create jewellery by reinterpreting ancient techniques such as granulation and filigree.
In the 1950s, he launched his "archaeological" collection, combining ancient heritage and modernity, before founding his own company in the 1960s.
Gold was his main material, and he drew his inspiration from many cultures, from prehistory to Byzantine and Asian art.
