Description
LAMENNAIS (Félicité de) – Paroles d’un croyant. 1833. Paris, Eugène Renduel, 1834. First edition or published in the same year as the first edition. Contemporary half-green calf binding, decorated spine, wear to the joints and caps (previous repairs to the binding). Ex-libris of Jean LARTEGUY. Regarded as a lyrical and prophetically revolutionary text combining social demands, a call for the freedom of peoples and a critique of the established order, it enjoyed immense commercial success before being condemned by Pope Gregory XVI’s encyclical *Singulari nos* in June 1834. Formerly in the collection of Jean LARTEGUY, from the estate of Mrs L.
