Description
Alain Lacoste (French, 1935–2022) Importance and the Daisy, 2003 Bas-relief, fabric, paper, cardboard, painted on heavy cardboard. Height 108, Width 77 cm. Provenance: the collection of Laurent Danchin (1946–2017), writer, essayist and art critic, passed down through the family. Born in Laval, he was set on a career in teaching before a stay in a psychiatric hospital disrupted his path; his encounter with Robert Tatin proved decisive. Alain Lacoste transforms reclaimed wood and stone into bas-reliefs populated by intertwined figures and animals, combining graphic design, colour and wordplay. He is regarded as one of the pioneers of French ‘art singulier’.
