Provenance: the collection of Laurent Danchin (1946–2017), writer, essayist and art critic, passed down through the family. This artist couple have been working ‘hand in hand’ for over forty years. Based in the volcanic region of Auvergne since 1995, Ghyslaine and Sylvain Staëlens create assemblages from volcanic stone, roots, wood and metal that serve an almost talismanic purpose, straddling animism and popular Catholicism. Their works are notably held at the American Folk Art Museum in New York. The duo are featured by Laurent Danchin in *Mycelium, génie savant génie brut* (Editions de l’abbaye d’Auberive, Auberive, 2014).
