Description
Pavel Petrovich Leonov (Russian, 1920–2011)
The Dancer
Oil on canvas.
Titled and signed in Cyrillic.
Height 90, width 84 cm.
Minor losses.
Provenance: the collection of Laurent Danchin (1946–2017), writer, essayist and art critic, passed down through the family.
A self-taught Russian naïve painter, formerly a carpenter and woodcutter, Leonov did not begin painting until late in life, in the 1970s, creating dense, narrative rural scenes which are now held, notably, in the Collection de l’Art Brut in Lausanne.
