Description
Antoine Rigal (French, born 1966)
“One Full Moon Night…”, 2009
Painted panel.
Inscribed, dated and titled.
Height 100, Width 76 cm.
Provenance: the collection of Laurent Danchin (1946–2017), writer, essayist and art critic, passed down through the family.
Born in Domfront, Rigal spent part of his childhood in Mayenne. A self-taught painter, sculptor and poet, he discovered painting at the age of twenty-two. Charles Schaettel, then curator of the Laval museums, encouraged him from an early stage. His incisive paintings feature figures reminiscent of comic strips. They explore themes of death, violence and the quest for love.
