“Let’s go to the ‘Gardeners of Memory’ exhibition in Bègles”, 1992
Painted envelope.
Signed, titled and dated.
Dedicated on the reverse to Laurent Danchin.
Height 47, Width 39 cm.
Provenance: collection of Laurent Danchin (1946–2017), writer, essayist and art critic, passed down through the family.
Born in Oran, a customs officer by profession, El Roy took up drawing as a self-taught artist at around the age of 41, developing a graphic style reminiscent of writing that evolved into an ‘imaginary Arabic calligraphy’. He maintained a regular correspondence with Jean Dubuffet between 1977 and 1985. His works are held at the Musée de la Création Franche in Bègles.
