Philippe Aïni (French, born 1952) Portrait in the style of Bacon Wallpaper. Height 64, width 57 cm. Provenance: the collection of Laurent Danchin (1946–2017), writer, essayist and art critic, passed down through the family. Born in Bordeaux, Aïni left his job as a pastry chef at the age of twenty-four to devote himself to art. Self-taught, he refused to align himself with any particular movement. His mixtures of mattress stuffing and glue became a malleable paste well-suited to sculpture.
