Description
ADOLPHE TERRIS (1820–1899) Attributed to Panorama of the former La Tourette district, c. 1850. This truly exceptional print shows a view of the La Tourette district before the demolition of the old Église de la Major – which can be made out behind what appears here to be Fort Saint-Jean – and the construction of the new cathedral. As the earthworks for the new cathedral and the Joliette basins began in 1852, this photograph must have been taken no later than the mid-19th century. Later print on period silver-gelatine paper, circa 1880. 12 x 22.5 cm
