Scale models of the Cathedral of La Major on an entablature, Main
Façade. c. 1872.
2 albumen prints from a collodion glass negative, mounted on
cardboard, with title, caption, reference to the chief architect Léon Vaudoyer and a facsimile
of the photographer’s signature printed on the mount.

Espérandieu had been working in Vaudoyer’s studio in Paris since 1847; appointed
chief inspector of the new cathedral thanks to Vaudoyer’s team,
he travelled to Marseille to supervise the works, on which he collaborated
initially, before taking sole responsibility for continuing the project following
Vaudoyer’s death in 1872; work continued under the direction of Henri
Revoil following Espérandieu’s death in 1874.
