- Palais de la Bourse, with a letter from the architect Coste to
the departmental architect Martin
Pascal Coste, the city’s chief architect, was commissioned by Fabricius
Paranque, a soap manufacturer and President of the Chamber, to draw up the plans.
The project required the compulsory purchase of 65 buildings, the
demolition of which began in 1852. The inauguration took place in
September 1860, in the presence of Napoleon III and Empress
Eugénie. Work on the finishing touches continued for a further twenty years.
