In 1950 in New York, Josef Albers began the ‘Homage to the Square’ series and continued it uninterrupted until his death in 1976. Using a structure of interlocking squares as his starting point, the artist developed countless variations designed to explore interactions and colour relationships.
In 2008, Hermès Éditeur, in collaboration with The Josef and Anni Albers Foundation, reproduced six compositions from this series on silk twill, each issued in a limited edition of 200 numbered copies. This edition marks Hermès Éditeur’s first project dedicated to the reproduction of works of art on silk.
