Description
HOFFMANN Josef (1870–1956)
Pair of armchairs, ‘Kubus’ model, made of wood, fully upholstered and covered in black leather, with large tufted squares forming a continuous geometric pattern; black-stained wooden legs with silver-coloured hemispherical elements
Wittmann edition circa 1980, model designed in 1910
(under each armchair, a fabric label and a gilt metal plate engraved ‘Hoffmann made by Wittmann Vienna’)
Approx. 72 x 92 x 75 cm
Designed in 1910, the Kubus is one of the most characteristic expressions of Josef Hoffmann’s geometric vocabulary, with the repetition of the square defining both the armchair’s overall volume and its upholstery.
Wittmann has been producing reissues of this design since the 1960s
