Bottle of the Passion of Our Lady of Liesse Made of clear and coloured glass and metal wire. Straight, circular body resting on a small circular base, with an elongated neck topped by an attached stopper. It contains a large number of ludions, which rise and fall with changes in atmospheric pressure, and which illustrate the legend of the two crusaders who set out to free Christ’s tomb and were ‘transported’ to Liesse, along with Ismérie, the sultan’s daughter, who had them thrown into prison. Some of these floats bear ‘Arma Christi’, such as Veronica’s veil, a die, the crown of thorns, the scourge, the spear, the reed, … The water contained in the bottle is said to be from the miraculous fountain of Liesse, but the water level has been restored.
