Description
Edouard BERNARD (1879–1950), after. “Le Pavois”. Lithographed poster for the drink Le Pavois, a wine flavoured with cinchona. Signed on the plate, in the shape of a bottle. On card. (H.: 92 cm) (folds) Source: Société Historique du Soissonnais “In the 1930s, the Vaillant company (rue Pétrot Labarre in Soissons) made a name for itself with an original product. Rather than competing with table wines, it produced its own quinine-based drink, an aperitif that was very much in vogue at the time, made from aged wines macerated with cinchona bark. Their flagship brand was called ‘Le Pavois’."
