Description
Edouard BERNARD (1879–1950), after. “Le Pavois”. Lithographed poster for the drink Le Pavois, a wine flavoured with cinchona. Signed on the plate, in the shape of a bottle. On card. (H.: 92 cm) (folds)
Source: Société Historique du Soissonnais “In the 1930s, the Vaillant company (rue Pétrot Labarre in Soissons) distinguished itself through an original product. Rather than competing with table wines, it produced its own quinine-based drink, an aperitif that was very much in vogue at the time, made from aged wines macerated with cinchona bark. Their flagship brand was called ‘Le Pavois’."
