PICASSO, Pablo (1881–1973) The Taste of Happiness. Three Studio Sket치books. Preface by Jean Marcenac. Paris, Éditions Cercle d’Art [or New York, Harry N. Abrams / Bremen, Carl Schünemann], 1970. Quarto, loose-leaf, with the publisher’s grey cloth slipcase and cover. A complete, full-colour reproduction in the original format of three sketchbooks by Pablo Picasso, produced in Provence between April and October 1964. The set comprises 71 plates (including 27 in colour), featuring faithful reproductions of 3 covers and 68 drawings executed in pencil, Indian ink, charcoal and coloured chalk. The facsimiles were produced using the Dietz process, a phototype and stencil technique of absolute precision, supervised by the artist himself. The publication of this major work was shared internationally between three publishers (Paris, New York and Bremen). The worldwide print run was strictly limited to 1,998 numbered copies on Arches vellum paper, with 666 copies allocated to each edition. Our copy is numbered 87/666.
