Several comparable portraits by the same artist are attributed to Honoré Jean GUIBERT (circa 1720-1791), an ornamental sculptor from Avignon and brother-in-law of Joseph Vernet. The author of our portrait is more likely his brother, the painter and print dealer Antoine Guibert, who has not been well documented to date.
