Description
Charles & Henri BEAUBRUN (1604–1692) (1603–1677) Portrait of Charlotte de Vernou de la Rivière Bonneüil as Diana the Huntress Canvas. 142 x 103 cm Charlotte de Vernou de la Rivière Bonneüil (c. 1641–1692) was a lady-in-waiting to Anne of Austria. She married Jean-Louis d’Arpajon in her first marriage, and later François de Gélas. She was the mother of Marshal de Lautrec and the grandmother of the Duchess of Mouchy. The model’s pose, the attributes of Diana, and the clothing form a type of composition frequently used and reused by the Beaubrun brothers in their portraits of women. One example is the Presumed Portrait of Anne Marie Louise d’Orléans, which appeared at the auction on 11 December 2006 in Paris (Me Millon), lot 28bis, reproduced here.
