Description
Telescopic, c. 1780
Folded fan, of the so-called ‘pocket’ or ‘telescopic’ type; the double silk panel is painted with cupids in the side cartouches, and portraits of a young man and a young woman hanging from a palm tree. In the centre, a romantic scene by the water’s edge.
Reverse: pink flowers painted in the centre.
Ivory frame with a so-called ‘pocket’ or telescopic mechanism. When the fan is closed, the ribs slide inside the panel to reduce the fan’s size and make it easier to carry. The spine is decorated with a vase and flowers, engraved and gilded.
Height at top: 28.5 cm – Height at base: 13.3 cm
