Description
Terracotta bust depicting a woman
Lucien le Vieux
Signed on the back in intaglio: ‘le Vieux ft 1791’; resting on a terracotta pedestal
Height: 28 cm
There was indeed a sculptor named Lucien Le Vieux who worked in the second half of the 18th century. Only one work by him is known: a terracotta bust of the botanist Bernard de Jussieu, who died in 1777; neither his date of birth nor his date of death are known. I do not think a forger would bother to copy an obscure, if not unknown, artist
