Jacob FEYT de VRIES (circa 1620-1644).
The Battle of the Downs 21st October 1639.
Parqueted oak panel, signed with the monogram on the piece of driftwood in the lower centre.
(Old restorations.)
Height 50 cm; Width: 93 cm.
The Battle of the Downs pitted the Dutch against the Spanish under the command of Antonio de Oquendo. To starboard is the Dutch flagship Aemilia, under the command of Maarten Harpertszoon Tromp.

This painting has a certificate of authenticity from Professor BOL, author of the Dutch painting "Marines du XVIIe siècle".
