Bibliography :
- Cat. Expo Jean Joseph Xavier BIDAULD (1758-1846) Carpentras-Angers-Cherbourg, 1978, cat. no. 41.
The painting depicts the discovery of Paris, the Trojan hero, as a child on Mount Ida, who, exposed by his parents Priam and Hecuba, was taken in by a shepherd. Bidauld's painting has a similar layout to that of a sketch by Vincenze Camuccini (1771-1844), circa 1800, a study for the decoration of the Villa Borghese, (cat. exp. Angelika Kauffmann und ihre Zeitgenossen, Bregenz and Vienna, 196!-69, no. 134 reproduced).
