ERNEST CHAPLET (1835–1909) CERAMIST & EDOUARD DAMMOUSE (1850–1903) AND FREDERIC HEXAMER (1847–1924) DESIGNERS OF DECORATIONS FOR HAVILAND & CO. Shellfish gathering at low tide Very tall ovoid vase; the base is marked with striations, whilst the upper section has a slight shoulder beneath the neck. Brown stoneware prototype; the engraved wheel-thrown decoration is partly glazed in polychrome and highlighted with gold in places. From the so-called Rue Blomet Haviland Workshop period (1882–1885). Signed with the rosary and the manufacturer’s monogram H&Co; bears the number 32 in relief and the hand-incised mark R.B.12 beneath the base; bears the engraved monograms A. D. and H.
