Description
GASTON SUISSE (1896–1988) Black Panther in the Bamboo, 1927 Woodcut on pearlescent Japanese paper – enhanced with washes of Indian ink by the artist. Presented in a modern frame with a Macassar ebony moulding. Signed ‘G. SUISSE’ in the lower left-hand corner and dated 1927 in the lower right-hand corner. Dimensions: 20.5 x 41.5 cm Note: In 1927, Gaston Suisse produced a woodcut entitled *Black Panther in the Bamboo*, from which he himself printed around twenty proofs on different grades of paper. These prints were not sold as they were; the artist reworked each print using washes of Indian ink to achieve different effects on each one, thereby conferring upon them the status of original works. Important: We would like to thank Dominique Suisse, the artist’s son and heir, for confirming the authenticity of this work.
