Description
GEORGE NAKASHIMA (1905–1990) Conoid, one-off piece (in these dimensions), acquired by Mr Leon Lowenstern, Vineland, New Jersey, USA, and paid for on 29 May 1965 Very large boat-shaped dining table in walnut. The base consists of two V-shaped legs joined by a floor brace and resting on long glides. The tabletop is a truncated ellipse and is made in two sections. Produced by the George Nakashima Woodworkers Studio, New Hope, USA. H. 73.5 cm L. 229 cm W. 106 cm Acknowledgements: We extend our warmest thanks to the Nakashima Foundation for Peace and to Mira Nakashima, the artist’s daughter, for confirming the authenticity of this work, for their research in their archives, and for providing us with a copy of the original purchase receipt; this copy will be handed over to the purchaser. Provenance: Formerly in the collection of Mr and Mrs Lowenstern, Vineland, New Jersey, USA. The work was invoiced on 29 May 1965 by the artist’s studio.
