RARE BYZANTINE GOLD RING WITH LAPIS LAZULI INTAGLIO DEPICTING ROYAL FAMILY AND CHI-RHO. Ca. AD 600 - 700. A lapis lazuli intaglio engraved with the confronting busts of a man and a woman, a juvenile bust between them, and a Chi-Rho above. Set in a gold ring with a round collet within a scalloped bezel, and a hoop of paired twisted wires. Size: D:19.15mm / US: 9 1/4 / UK: S; Weight: 5g Provenance: Private London collection; previously in a 1990s UK Ancient art collection. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
